Winter wonderland.

Winter is usually the time of the year this introvert retreats indoors and stays put until warmer weather returns. However I do enjoy a couple of outdoor winter activities, especially around the holidays!

Snow is officially on the ground (where I live) and Christmas is just under a week away! I’m not much of an outdoorsy person during the winter, but around the holidays I do enjoy walking around to see all the Christmas light, enjoy a cup of hot coffee or cocoa, or if it’s a bit brisk outside, drive around to look at the lights. It really puts you in the holiday spirit, and I’m sure after the year we’ve all experienced we could use some holiday cheer.

Today’s blog post is just a little short and sweet share of a few winter activities I love doing, especially around this time of year.

Hot chocolate walks

This one is probably one of my favorite winter activities on a mild winter day! If it’s REALLY cold, you won’t catch me outside, period. But on a nicer winter day, with the sun poking through the clouds on a crisp afternoon. Pair that with getting a hot chocolate (or cafe mocha if you’re a coffee lover like myself) and walking around a park or a downtown street is quite possibly the perfect way to spend an afternoon during the winter.

Since working from home, I do appreciate any time I get out of my home for some fresh air. And now with some fresh snow for the holidays, this would be the perfect thing to do the weekend before Christmas. And speaking of it being the last weekend before Christmas, I may actually grab a coffee and do some local downtown gift shopping! I encourage you to support your local small businesses as much as possible this holiday season (for very obvious reasons!)

Christmas light drives

One of my absolute favorite things to do around Christmas is to drive around and look at everyone’s Christmas lights. Growing up there always were certain streets you could always count on to have the BEST lights in town and we would always drive around and look at the lights during Christmas. Especially when leaving a holiday gathering, we would ask our parents to take the longer route home just to see if any houses still had their Christmas lights on.

This is also the first year I did any exterior decorating for the holidays! I picked up a string of colorful Christmas lights and decorated the mudroom of our home. Even though it’s very simple and still INSIDE the house, it really brightens up the front windows and instills warm holiday vibes when entering the house. And even those who drive by can see our cozy home lit up for the holidays!

If you took the time to read this blog post, my heart is full. What are some of your favorite winter activities? Let’s continue in the comments below (perhaps with a nice cup of coffee, heh.)

And reader, I want to thank you for reading up to this point in the post. Writing is an outlet I am passionate about, but hardly allow myself to do. *do to unforeseen circumstances, blogmas did not go as planned — but I will still be uploading more blog content between now and Christmas, so stay tuned.
